Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. F4 indicates water has already leaked into the base. Running the machine before finding and fixing the leak source risks further water damage to the appliance and surrounding cabinetry. Do not operate the machine until the fault is resolved.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Once the base pan is dried and the float switch resets (by tilting the machine), F4 will clear. However, if the source of the leak is not repaired, F4 will return on the next wash cycle.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Water continues to drip or pool under the machine after the base pan has been dried, The float switch does not reset even after thoroughly drying the base pan.
Symptoms You May Notice
Water pooling under or in front of the dishwasher
Visible water on the floor beneath the machine is the clearest sign that the base pan has collected leaked water and the overflow float has triggered.
Cycle stops suddenly and F4 is shown on the display
The wash program halts mid-cycle without completing any phase, and the drain pump may continue to run after the code appears.
Drain pump runs continuously even when the cycle is not active
Asko flood-protection logic keeps the drain pump running to evacuate water from the base pan; the pump will not stop until the float switch is reset.
Damp or wet insulation blanket visible at the base of the machine
If the machine is pulled forward, the underside insulation pad is visibly saturated with water, confirming water has entered the base tray.
Possible Causes
Damaged or dislodged door gasket
The rubber door seal has cracked, torn, or pulled out of its channel, allowing spray water to escape the tub and drip into the base pan during wash cycles.
DIY PossibleLoose or split internal hose connection
A hose connecting the inlet valve, sump, or recirculation system has worked loose or cracked, dripping water into the base pan during operation.
Requires ProfessionalExcessive suds from incorrect detergent
Using hand-washing liquid or too much detergent generates foam that overflows the tub, triggers the float switch, and displays F4 even without a mechanical leak.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Tilt the machine to drain the base pan
Switch off and unplug the dishwasher. Place towels in front. Carefully tilt the machine forward about 45 degrees and hold it there for 30–60 seconds to allow water in the base pan to drain to the front. Lay it back upright and mop up any water. Wait 30 minutes for the float switch to dry and settle before testing.
Get a second person to help tilt the machine safely — Asko dishwashers are heavy.

2
Inspect the door gasket
With the door open, run your finger around the entire perimeter of the door rubber gasket. Look and feel for cracks, tears, missing sections, or areas where the gasket has lifted out of its channel. Press any lifted sections firmly back into the groove. Close the door and look for daylight gaps around the perimeter.
A thin bead of silicone grease applied to the gasket restores its suppleness and sealing ability on older machines.
-
3
Verify correct detergent type and quantity
Confirm you are using automatic dishwasher detergent only (not hand-washing-up liquid). Follow the dosage on the detergent pack — most modern concentrated formulas require only 15–20 ml per wash. If suds overflow was the cause, run two empty rinse cycles to flush excess detergent from the system.
Pods or tablets eliminate over-dosing errors and are recommended for Asko machines.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Internal hose connections or the sump assembly show signs of cracking or leaking
- The door gasket is torn and cannot be reseated into the door channel
- F4 returns immediately on the first fill cycle after the base pan has been fully dried, indicating an active and ongoing leak
