Asko washer motor board fire risk 2013 — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.
Asko W6000-series front-load washing machines were recalled in 2013 under CPSC Recall #13-085 due to a fire hazard caused by a defective motor control board that could overheat during high-speed spin cycles. Approximately 2,800 units sold in the United States between 2010 and 2013 were included in the recall.
The motor control board, located in the lower service bay of the washer, was found to develop solder joint fatigue under the thermal stress of repeated spin cycles at 1,400–1,600 RPM. The resulting electrical arcing could generate enough heat to ignite insulation and the surrounding plastic housing, posing a risk of fire to the laundry area.
Affected Models
W6003, W6005, W6011, W6021, and W6444 manufactured between January 2010 and June 2013. The model number label is on the inside of the door opening, on the rim of the drum cabinet. Serial numbers beginning with 10, 11, 12, or 13 are potentially within scope.
Required Action Steps
- Stop using the washing machine immediately, especially on spin cycles above 800 RPM.
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet or switch off the circuit breaker dedicated to the laundry area.
- Find the model and serial number on the inner door rim label.
- Call Asko Consumer Support at 1-800-898-1879 or check cpsc.gov for recall number 13-085 to confirm eligibility.
