Asko Appliances recalled approximately 5,500 DBI565-series dishwashers in 2018 under CPSC Recall #18-057 after the drain pump motor was found to overheat and pose a fire hazard during drain cycles. Reports of melting plastic components and small fires in the base pan prompted the joint recall announcement with the CPSC.

The drain pump motor in affected DBI565 units could develop a winding fault that caused it to draw excessive current at the end of each wash cycle. The resulting heat could melt adjacent plastic tubing and ignite the insulation layer in the base pan, with the risk of the fire spreading to under-counter cabinetry.

Affected Models

DBI565IXXLS, DBI565IXXLS.S, DBI565IXXLB, DBI565IXXLB.S manufactured between January 2015 and October 2017. The model and serial number label is on the left side of the inner door frame. Serial numbers in the range 15xxxx through 17xxxx (where xx denotes week-year encoding) are included.

Required Action Steps

  1. Stop using the dishwasher immediately and disconnect power at the wall outlet or circuit breaker.
  2. Open the door and locate the model and serial number label on the inner left door frame.
  3. Verify recall eligibility at cpsc.gov (recall #18-057) or call 1-800-638-2772.
  4. Contact Asko at 1-800-898-1879 to schedule the free in-home drain pump motor replacement.
  5. Do not reinstall the cabinet door panel until the repair is complete, to allow easy technician access.
