Asko Oven E08 Error: Overheating / thermal cut-out
Asko oven E08 error is a common issue reported by Asko appliance owners. What Does Asko Oven Error Code E08 Mean? E08 signals that the oven’s thermal protection has activated due to the cavity or surrounding electronics exceeding safe temperature limits. This is a serious fault that requires investigation before the oven is used again, […]

Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. E08 indicates a potentially dangerous overheating condition. Do not resume normal use until the root cause has been identified and repaired by a qualified technician.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. The thermal cut-out can be reset via a breaker power-cycle after the oven fully cools. However, if the underlying cause is not fixed the cut-out will trip again, potentially causing damage.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Stop immediately and keep the kitchen well-ventilated if you see or smell smoke., Do not re-use the oven after E08 until a technician has confirmed the temperature regulation system is functioning correctly..
Symptoms You May Notice
Oven shuts down mid-cook at high temperatures
During roasting or broiling at high settings the oven suddenly shuts off with E08 showing — food is left unfinished and the oven cavity is extremely hot.
E08 on display with all heating stopped
The display shows E08 and all heating element activity ceases immediately — the oven becomes safe but unusable until reset after cooling.
Oven exterior panels unusually hot to touch
The side panels, top, or surrounding cabinetry are significantly hotter than in normal operation, indicating heat is not being dissipated correctly.
Strong burning smell from oven area
Excessive heat scorches food residue, oven liner coating, or wiring insulation, producing an acrid smell that accompanies the E08 trip.
Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation
Insufficient clearance around a built-in oven or items placed on top of a freestanding model block airflow, trapping heat and triggering the thermal cut-out.
DIY PossibleThermostat / sensor runaway
A faulty thermostat or temperature sensor sends an incorrect low-temperature reading, causing the control board to run the elements continuously until the thermal cut-out trips.
Requires ProfessionalFailed cooling fan
As with E04, a dead cooling fan allows heat to build up around the control electronics, tripping the secondary thermal protection and generating E08.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Allow full cooling before reset
Do not attempt to reset the oven immediately. Allow at least 60–90 minutes of complete cooling with the oven door closed. The thermal cut-out is a safety device — forcing a reset while hot may re-trip it instantly.
Check that the room is well ventilated and keep children and pets away from the hot oven exterior during cooling.
-
2
Verify installation clearances
Check the Asko installation guide for your model's required clearances — typically 50 mm above, 50 mm at rear, and correct side clearances. Remove any items stored on top of the oven and ensure the ventilation slots are not obstructed.
Recessed installation in a tight cabinet without proper ventilation cut-outs is a common cause of E08 in newly installed or recently renovated kitchens.
-
3
Test at low temperature after reset
After a power-cycle reset, set the oven to 150 °C conventional bake. Monitor for 20 minutes. If the oven climbs well past 150 °C or trips E08 again quickly, a runaway thermostat fault is likely — do not continue and call a technician.
An independent oven thermometer placed in the cavity helps confirm whether the oven is overshooting the set temperature.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- E08 recurs within one or two cook cycles after a full cooling reset — indicates active thermostat or sensor fault.
- The oven exterior or cabinetry shows discolouration or heat damage from repeated overheating episodes.
- The oven overshoots set temperature significantly (more than 30 °C above target) on the test cycle.
