Asko Microwave Venting Notice | Clearance Safety

Asko microwave venting notice — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.

Inadequate ventilation clearance around an Asko built-in or countertop microwave causes the magnetron and power transformer to overheat, reducing appliance lifespan and in extreme cases creating an internal fire risk within the microwave cavity. Asko M-series built-in microwaves require a minimum 50 mm clearance on each side and 80 mm above the unit when installed in a trim-kit opening.

Asko microwaves installed in tight cabinet recesses without proper trim kits are particularly vulnerable to heat buildup. The ventilation slots on the top and sides of the microwave must not be covered by shelf liners, towels, or improperly sized trim panels. A microwave operating above its rated temperature will trigger the internal thermal protection, causing abrupt shutdowns mid-cooking.

Warning Signs to Look For

  • Microwave shutting off mid-cycle without a door-open event
  • Exterior of the microwave feels hot to the touch on the top or sides after use
  • Burning smell coming from inside the cavity or from the ventilation slots
  • Fan running continuously even minutes after cooking completes
  • Visible blockage of the ventilation slots by trim material or stored items

Clearance and Venting Steps

  1. Measure the clearance between the microwave body and the surrounding cabinet panels — it must meet the minimum values specified in the Asko installation guide for your model.
  2. Verify that the ventilation slots on the microwave body are not covered by the trim kit frame or cabinet material.
  3. Ensure the microwave trim kit used is the Asko-specified model for your appliance — third-party trim kits may not provide the required airflow channels.
  4. Do not place items on top of a countertop microwave or lean objects against the side ventilation slots.
  5. Clean the ventilation slots with a soft brush every three months to remove dust accumulation that restricts airflow.

When to Call a Technician

If the microwave continues to shut down mid-cycle after ensuring correct clearance, the internal thermal fuse or magnetron temperature sensor may have tripped permanently. Do not attempt to reset an internal thermal fuse — contact an Asko-authorized technician, as a tripped thermal fuse indicates an underlying overheating fault that must be diagnosed before the appliance is used again.
