Asko Cooktop Induction Glass Notice | Surface Care

Asko cooktop induction glass notice — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.

The ceramic glass surface of Asko induction cooktops can crack under thermal shock or impact, exposing live electrical components beneath the glass and creating a serious electrocution hazard. Asko HI1654ID and HI1694ID series induction hobs use toughened ceramic glass, but this material is not immune to fracture from heavy dropped cookware or sugar spills that carbonize onto the surface.

Unlike radiant ceramic cooktops, induction hobs generate heat within the pan rather than the glass surface, so the glass feels relatively cool during use. However, heat transferred back from the pan can still stress hairline fractures already present in the glass, causing sudden crack propagation during cooking.

Warning Signs to Look For

  • Hairline cracks, chips, or crazing in the glass surface — visible under raking light
  • Sparking or arcing visible through the glass beneath a zone
  • Error code E0 or similar “glass fault” code on the display
  • Unusual buzzing or clicking from a zone that does not correspond to normal induction resonance
  • Caramelized sugar spill that has not been cleaned before next use

Safe Surface Care Steps

  1. Never use the cooktop if any crack or chip is visible — switch off at the circuit breaker and call a technician.
  2. Clean spills immediately after cooking using a cooktop scraper held at a 30-degree angle — never use abrasive pads or steel wool.
  3. Use only induction-compatible flat-bottomed cookware; warped or rough-bottomed pans can scratch the glass and create stress points.
  4. Do not slide heavy cast iron cookware across the surface — lift and place.
  5. Monthly, apply a cooktop conditioning cream to fill micro-scratches and maintain the hydrophobic surface layer.

Contact Information

Asko Consumer Support: 1-800-898-1879 | Induction glass surface replacement for HI1654ID and HI1694ID series starts from $320 at authorized Asko service centers.

When to Call a Technician

Stop using the cooktop immediately if any crack is found, and do not attempt DIY glass replacement on an induction hob — the glass replacement procedure requires disconnection from mains power and calibration of the induction coil sensors. Contact an Asko-authorized technician.
