Asko refrigerator compressor notice — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.
Insufficient clearance around the Asko refrigerator’s compressor and condenser coil causes the compressor to overheat, shortening its lifespan and increasing electricity consumption — and in severe cases, an overheating compressor can become a fire ignition source. Asko R-series and integrated refrigerators require a minimum clearance of 50 mm at the rear and sides, with unrestricted airflow to the compressor compartment at the base.
When Asko refrigerators are built into cabinetry, the kickboard ventilation panel must remain unobstructed. A common installation error is placing items in front of the toe-kick ventilation grille, blocking the convective airflow the condenser relies on for heat dissipation.
Warning Signs to Look For
- Compressor running continuously without cycling off
- Excessive heat felt on the refrigerator exterior panels or adjacent cabinetry
- Interior temperature rising above the set point despite normal door use
- Unusual buzzing or rattling from the compressor compartment
- Items stored under or beside the refrigerator blocking the ventilation grille
Clearance and Ventilation Steps
- Check that the minimum 50 mm rear clearance is maintained and that the appliance has not been pushed fully back against the wall.
- Ensure the front kickboard ventilation grille is unobstructed — remove any items stored in front of the refrigerator base.
- In integrated installations, verify that the upper and lower ventilation channels specified in the Asko installation guide are not blocked by cabinet panels or shelving.
- Vacuum the condenser coil (accessible through the base grille after removing it) at least once per year to remove dust accumulation that impedes airflow.
- Keep the compressor compartment free from stored items — never store anything in the base cavity of a refrigerator.

When to Call a Technician
If the compressor runs continuously for more than 30 minutes without cycling off, or if interior temperatures remain above 5°C despite correct clearance, the compressor or refrigerant circuit may require professional diagnosis. Compressor service should only be performed by an EPA Section 608 certified technician.
