Asko Washer Door Gasket Notice | Mold Prevention

Asko washer door gasket notice — read this important safety alert for full details and affected models.

Mold and mildew growth in the Asko front-load washer door gasket is a health hazard that can spread spores into laundry loads and create persistent odors in the wash drum. Asko W6000 and W4000 series front-loaders use a deep-bellows gasket that traps moisture and detergent residue if the door is closed immediately after each cycle.

Asko’s European-engineered washers typically run at higher temperatures than U.S.-standard machines, which helps inhibit some biological growth, but low-temperature quick-wash and cold-rinse cycles do not fully eliminate moisture accumulation in the gasket fold. Consistent post-cycle habits are the most effective prevention measure.

Warning Signs to Look For

  • Black or grey speckling on the inner and outer gasket surfaces
  • Musty or sour smell when opening the washer door
  • Dark staining in the gasket fold that does not wipe away with a dry cloth
  • Laundry coming out of the washer smelling musty even after a completed cycle

Prevention Steps

  1. After every wash cycle, wipe the gasket dry with a clean microfibre cloth, paying attention to the fold.
  2. Leave the door ajar (minimum 10 cm gap) for at least two hours after each cycle to allow air circulation.
  3. Monthly, run the Asko drum-clean cycle (or a 90°C cotton cycle with no load) using a washer cleaner tablet.
  4. Apply a thin layer of Asko-compatible gasket seal conditioner to the gasket lip every three months to maintain flexibility and reduce adhesion of residue.
  5. Use HE (high-efficiency) low-suds detergent only, at the dosage specified for your water hardness — excess suds accelerate residue build-up.

When to Call a Technician

If mold has penetrated deep into the gasket bellows and cannot be removed by cleaning, the gasket should be replaced. A technician can also check the drain pump filter and drum seal for associated mold growth that homeowner cleaning may miss.
